Chez Raymond De Paris - the hidden gem in Sai Kung ( Hong Kong )
This is not the first time we visited this little french restaurant in Sai Kung , I've been missing the food they do for nearly a month and I'm really glad that we came here again tonight.
So, this is Friday night and we tried to make the reservation at 8 but Raymond the owner asked for if 8:30pm would be ok as it will be busy until then which was fine for us , when we arrived , the restaurant was full except that they’ve left a table for us
In such horrible weather in Hong Kong , once we sat down and we cant wait to order a beer , the waitress asked us if we want to try the french beer from the city Lille , yea sure ! why not? the flower favor is quite strong , the taste is a bit like Hoegarden , not impressive but not bad at all.
Beer is not bad but it is not why we are here so we asked for Raymon’s recommendation , we don't really like the Sauvigon Blanc from NZ but the french one is totally different , its dry but fruity , subtle & nature in favor.
Obviously the menu has been updated , not a big change but the starter – quail that i was hoping to order since last time has become the main course now which is quite disappointing , anyway , the scallop cooked with white wine caught my eye !
Here we go , scallops look bigger size than i thought , it came with asparagus and creamy sauce , no overcooked, sweet , soft and firm , however , the creamy sauce was a bit too sweet for me but not for my bf
From the side u can tell its a nice thickness
And so , for the main course , we both ordered the 300g sirloin steak , my bf ordered medium well and mine was medium rare , the outlook was perfect but the only bad thing is mine was ready before his so it wasn't as hot as his and the top was a bit dry as well , anyway…
After cutting the first slice and i found it stunning , u can see its still quite juicy inside and the meat was pink which just the way i want them to cook , after a bite , u can tell the quality of the beef is very good, the meat was tender, the herb butter adds favor as well.
There is no way to have steak without drinking red wine , Raymond’s recommendation again, full body , meaty and lots of favor
French cheese platter , well , it looks pretty good but I'm not a fan of cheese , only had a small bite of each , doesn't taste like anything for me except stinky but my bf loves it , the price is very reasonable as well , only HKD 120 ( US$15.4 ) for such decent selection
For the dessert , as part of the set menu, about 5 , 6 options but there was a mystery dessert that u have to pay extra $ 50 (US$6.4) for it, well , I was being a bit cheeky , asked the waitress for some hints about the mystery thing and she said one is macaron and the other one is a secret , I've tried quite a lot of big brands of macaron , even had it in France but still … cant change my opinion about it – just lots of sugar so i asked for the other one.
Wow , i was surprised with what i saw, starting from the left , was a house made lemon tart ( i really appreciated seeing this one cox it was advertised on the blackboard as a chef”s recommendation and I'm always excited by ‘ HOUSE MADE ‘ stuff ).
The dessert was stunning !! On the left was lemon tart ,the lemon favor is not too strong but refreshing ; to its right was vanilla ice-cream , molten chocolate cake which was nice and finally, an excellent lemon sorbet which i thought was tiramisu becox it was covered in coco powder ! If I had known it’s a sorbet , I would’ve eaten it first
Raymond gave us a nice shot of rum after the meal
With such quality of food plus 2 bottles of wine , it costs us about HKD 1600 (US$205) , I can’t wait to go there again .. soon !
